I didn't watch the Junos but I heard that, as usual, it sucked.
Imagine my surprise when this morning, I was watching the news and I heard that Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene won for Best Songwriting and Best Alternative Album, respectively.
I guess the Junos didn't suck after all.

I was so excited to hear that BSS won! They deserve it and so does Arcade Fire. DOSE mag recently ran a Guide to Canadian Music and the Junos and when they asked people what they thought about Canadian music... one guy from the U.S. said "Never heard of it!" another said "Well...the Hip is pretty good."
Shit man... this country has some great stuff!! I'm amazed that some people have no idea whats out there. I guess they just assume is all from the U.S.
Nobody, in any country, knows any Canadian musicians...they just assume everyone is American.
I remember when Alanis exploded all over the world...I was in Italy and everyone there thought she was American.
I heard Pamela Anderson was truly an embarrassment. Whoever made that casting decision needs to lay off the crack. But it's nice to see GREAT Canadian artisits making the cut.
Here's the reverse of what you were talking about, Vanessa: I thought Metric was originally from Toronto until Frank set me straight. I heard "Poster of a Girl" in the car (on a London radio station!) on my way home today and the turn-out at their London concert was pretty good, so they definitely have a fan base here. I guess some people need to learn to appreciate music for what it is instead of where the artist was born.
